Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure using microinjections to treat unsightly spider veins and reticular veins with little to no downtime. This treatment involves microinjections of a mild solution into the affected vein which irritates the vessel wall and causes the vein to seal and eventually disappear. Most patients report only slight discomfort after the treatment and quickly return to their normal activities.
Sclerotherapy treatments can last 30 to 60 minutes depending on the numbers of veins treated. Improvement can usually be seen immediately after treatment with the full effect seen 2-4 weeks post-treatment. One to three treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired results.
